PYP Year 5 Exhibition, The true actions towards society

Jakarta, 30 January 2020. Education is not solely about preparing students to get the job in the future, it is about unfolding the hidden potential to contribute more on society. It will take commitment and confidence to support each student to be Self-regulated learners.

As a community of lifelong learners, Sekolah Cikal undertook PYP Exhibition, an assessment of learning in Sekolah Cikal Cilandak that had been successfully run every year as the final project of year 5, on January 29th-30th 2020. In this year, Sekolah Cikal proudly opted for the theme "Sharing the Planet", to support the 17 sustainable development goals by the United Nations with the slogan "Together we can change the world."

From Quality of Education to Climate Change issue

Students were enthusiast in presenting their research, and project in front of people after passing a long time (3 months) in researching by Design Thinking Process, which they should start from finding issue, doing research, until prototyping.

"PYP Exhibition is a research process that can relate with surroundings, and find the solution to solve that" Pima, PYP Coordinator Year 5, said. Some of the issues that have been chosen by students are Natural Disaster, Education for all, Deforestation issue, Health Nutrition, Sea Savers and Poverty.

Develop Competencies, Inspire community

Sekolah Cikal urges every student to contribute to making a better society from every idea created. "As a final project, we encourage students to not only develop their knowledge but also to be a better and impactful human being in society," Pima explained. Pima also elucidates that Cikal hopes that one day students can remind PYP Exhibition while they are older as a starting point of giving contribution towards society."We wish that one day when they are older, they simply can remind about the PYP Exhibition as the first way to contribute to society," told her.
