Jakarta, January 24th 2020. As starting point of new year, Sekolah Cikal Serpong has successfully undertaken Cikal Culminating Project Year 9 under the theme "The Power of personal Identity" on January 23rd 2020. Within this project, students year 9 have encountered a great challenge to demonstrate their academic knowledge in an experimental ways.
Learning in Characterized Way
The Power of Personal Identity focuses on learning in a characterized way. Cikal considered that Culminating Project is an approach to develop every students’ personal identity, as well as to unfold their voice, to move society and to empower wider community.
Students are starting their project by finding the current issues that has been influencing society, after that they start to figure out the research plan; afterwards, doing their own research by meeting some of experts related to their issues or topics. Then, they have to analyze data and for the final part, they must do reflection as the final phase of their research.
As Coordinator of Culminating Project year 9, Puti Hamid, emphasis that since students choose their own issues or topic, their enthusiasm and commitment must be retained for making their action beneficial towards community.
Raising students awareness towards society
Sekolah Cikal Serpong students are ultimately fascinated with this challenge. They discover tons of ideas to empower member and community. Some of them are making books, like Poetry that talking about teenager life; there is also foam away product that can reduce the water waste; making campaign about mental health, animal cruel, local brand, drugs dictionary, and so on.
"Students can realize that they have competencies and potential to be an empowering member that can contribute more to society." Puti said.
Reflecting on 5 Stars Competencies
Within this project, students are trained to reflect on some dimensions that can encourage them to have 5 Stars Competencies. Puti explains that there are 4 majors dimension related to this project, like Innovative in which students determine a suitable method and approach to find the solution, as well as demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete; Action-oriented in which students demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time and identify alternative solutions; there is also Reflective in which students can incorporate meaningful reflection as a strategy to implement alternative solutions, and the last but not least, Caring in which they can analyze the underlying societal issues and possible solutions that contribute to long term changes.
