Suara Murid Cikal - Nadya Anjani, Year 10 Sekolah Cikal Surabaya

A mother figure is always needed for every single child. A mother who put very little effort to cook their children’s lunchboxes. A mother works day and night to provide a comfortable living for their children. Simply, a mother figure who is present to keep our lives running smoothly. 

To celebrate this strong woman figure in our life, we took a day to do a little something special for them. Back when I was just starting to learn to write, I would fold a blank piece of paper in half like a book, and write a big statement using coloured pencil to make it stand out and wrote “I LOVE MOM!”, then put it by her desk at night before I went to bed and before she arrives home. 

Every year the small paper cards would be more decorative, extravagant, and full of colours, sometimes there will be a small dessert placed right next to the card, sometimes there will be a gigantic stickman drawing of her face right at the centre of the paper. But as time passes by, and as I am getting older while also being a person who cares about the big future, I forget those past moments that have shaped my current life.

I always love the moment, my mom and my brother would spend talking on a car ride somewhere around the city. It might look all simple, but it is a moment where we at some point pull out a joke everyone can laugh at but also we could let our feelings out and talk about different things, those are some of the moments that I would cherish as I get older and look back on. Of course, there were lots of different moments with my mom that are always stuck at the back of my head, and most of them are small memories of actions that make me appreciate my mom more.

“Mama if you are reading this, you would always be the person that I can always lean on, in the moment of desperation, I would always reach for you. Even though we sometimes have awkward times talking alone together, but all your effort in raising me wasn’t a waste.”

You see, my mom is the type of mom who lets their children make the choice they want to have and be independent, whether it’s about everyday situations or our future dreams we want to pursue, she was a very open-minded person. However, she not only taught me and my sibling about being independent is the best but also its consequences, which taught me to be a realistic person, and something I look up to from my mom.
