Jakarta, February 24th 2020. Year 8 students of Sekolah Cikal Setu have been successfully conducted Waste Management Workshop as part of Cikal Aksi-Aksi Program on Monday, February 24th 2020. This event has been led by the students itself and aimed to raise awareness of year 4 students in terms of Waste Management, in particular, the usage of plastic bags in daily life.
Un Rendezvous to Greenpeace Indonesia
Reno Ganesha, Cikal Aksi-Aksi Mentor, elucidates that before creating a workshop session, students get together visiting Green Peace Indonesia to explore the information needed relating their research about the characteristics as well as the criteria of waste management.
“Year 8 students are currently conducting community services known as Cikal Aksi-aksi about waste management. Before running this program, we have visited Green Peace Indonesia to know about waste management itself, including the criteria, and characteristic of waste.” He said.
Knowing Nadunga, Exploring Recycled Origami
On January, students at Sekolah Cikal Setu have been visited by Nadunga Allison, A Public Health Specialist and also an Eco Artist from Uganda, that has taught them how to create eco-friendly origami art. Her spirit in saving the earth by raising awareness of making the art from recycled waste.
“In Uganda, My group and I have a Corporate Social Responsibility Group called Repainting Uganda that teaches beggars on the streets of Kampala on how to live more sustainably away from begging. We teach them recycling art as a lifetime skill.” She explained in the article published on UNESCO.org
As a mentor, Reno said that students were enthusiast in partaking of the workshop with Nadunga, and they were attentive to share the information to year 4 students. “Students are eager to share the knowledge gained from Greenpeace and Nadunga Allison to year 4 Students by conducting the workshop today.” He said.
Learning how to be an environmental specialist
“This workshop is one of the learning approaches that has been adopted within Cikal known as Community Context, where students look for the information and create an action that is relevant to our society. “ Reno elucidated.
In the end, He emphasized that students positioned themselves as an environmental specialist that emerges the idea of saving the earth throughout the workshop. “So far, my students are definitely so intelligent. We are always learning how to collaborate with others, doing a brainstorm, and reflexion sessions in Community service class every Monday with me.” He said. (sfa)
